(DENVER, Colorado, September 28, 2017) – Two Colleton, South Carolina, residents, including Marshall “Bubba” Catterton died in 2016 after sustaining injuries after being struck by a vehicle when they were standing in the roadway trying to remove a deer they had hit.  Bubba was transported to a nearby hospital, and then later transported LifeNet of South Carolina, an Air Methods helicopter air ambulance program. While Bubba did not survive his injuries, he was given more than 40 units of blood at the hospital and while in flight. This blood allowed physicians to attempt surgery, and more importantly, it gave his family the opportunity to say goodbye.

As a result, the Catterton family, in conjunction with the Red Cross, is hosting their second annual blood drive to pay forward the gift of blood Bubba had received. LifeNet of South Carolina crew members will also attend to give blood. This year’s goal is to receive more than 100 units of blood.

LifeNet of South Carolina, along with all Air Methods brands in the Southeast Region carry blood on every air medical transport. Air Methods recently met with the Catterton family to discuss Bubba, the blood drive and the importance of air medical access in rural parts of South Carolina – the video patient story will be released later this year.
